Spearheaded by the Construction Leadership Council, the government have called for more sustainable and cost-effective ways to develop buildings and infrastructure throughout the UK under the 2018 Construction Sector Deal. Within this deal (and with financial backing) industry bodies have been called upon to lead and initiate changes across the sector, starting from the ground up.
These changes include updates to educational programmes by CITB in order to develop a more skilled workforce and more encouragement for the use of MMC to reduce onsite labour costs, carbon emissions and the length of time taken to finalise a build. In entrusting the CLC to oversee this transformation, the government and the industry hope to see a level of growth and improvement that is unified across the entire industry.
