Our associate director, Anthony Friis, recently authored an article for Welsh Housing Quarterly to make clear the link between decarbonising new housing stock and the adoption of MMC. Cast has been collbaorating with the Welsh Government policy team for several years ago and some of our thinking was embedded in the 2017 Innovative Housing Programme and subsequent guidance.
We are increasingly seeing policymakers realise that a performance goal to reduce operational and embodied carbon cannot be readily achieved unless there is wholesale reform of the methodologies and techniques used to design and deliver new homes. This is even more pressing in the face of severe resource and skills shortages.
Cast also recently helped the Welsh Government refresh its decarbonisation ambitions at an event in Cardiff, Decarbonising Welsh Housing: Live, attended by primary stakeholders from across government and industry.
