The built environment is estimated to contribute to approximately 40% of the UK’s total carbon footprint, and the construction sector has the ability to play a huge role in reducing these emission numbers. In line with the Climate Change Act 2008 and the Clean Growth Grand Challenge, government and industry experts joined together to form a plan to dramatically reduce carbon emissions created by the construction industry and to create net zero carbon buildings by 2050.
A key vehicle that will aid the industry in driving this change is the adoption of MMC and new technologies. Through modernising the sector, there will be a reduction in onsite labour and production waste as well as an increase in better quality homes that are more energy-efficient.
