On 19th July 2018 the House of Lords Science & Technology Select Committee published its findings from its recent inquiry into the role of offsite manufacturing in the construction industry.
Following extensive evidence taking from nearly 30 oral witness sessions and with over 80 written submissions, the committee published Offsite Manufacture for Construction: Building For Change’.
Its recommendations call for oversight and accountability on various recent policy commitments made by the UK Government to promote the offsite manufacturing/modern methods of construction sector. It also highlights the various industry barriers to adoption that need to be overcome through greater collaboration, more standardised design and improved procurement models. Cast CEO, Mark Farmer, was honoured to be able to support Lord Patel and Lord Mair in launching the report at the Institution of Civil Engineers.
